Scars are a Proof of Life

Scars are an amazing thing. Scars show that we’ve lived. Scars show that we’ve endured discomfort. Scars show that we’ve encountered pain. Yet scars don’t go away. They’re always there to remind of us the pain we once experienced.

Did you know you can have your scars removed? There are places you can go to that will surgically remove or at least “minimize” the appearance of the scar. Go to WebMD and you’ll find you can buy creams and ointments to apply to your skin to make the scar less visible. Some are over-the-counter and some are prescription only to be provided by a physician. Surgical options are there. Even injections for scars that somehow “stick out”. Their advice is if your scar “impairs you in any way, you may be able to get coverage from your health insurer.”

The scars are a map of where we’ve been, but God knows the map that is our future

The Storm in Your Life May Be Preparing You…

Last March my spiritual mom early on a Sunday morning shared on Facebook a post by Ralph Marston (he writes nice little inspirational posts) about opportunity. He wrote (I’ve shortened it) “Opportunity is not something you wait for, or search for, or find. Opportunity is something you embrace and activate with your actions. …It is a starting point, and going forward from that starting point requires work.” Nice thought, nice words and I didn’t think a whole lot about it. Then later that morning at church our youth pastor gave the message, and he said something that hit me like a ton of bricks being dropped on me… “What if our greatest obstacles became our greatest opportunities?” He then talked about how we’re so quick to ask God to MOVE the mountain in front of us out of the way, when all along it’s His desire that we climb and conquer that mountain, in order to be equipped to help others climb their mountains.

God was speaking to me loud and clear. I was for the most part past the storm in my life (maybe a few leaves still fluttering in the air) but there was that lingering “why?” What’s my purpose? I Like it Simple, So Don’t Tell Me It’s…

You’re probably familiar with the acronym KISS, right? It stands for Keep It Simple Stupid! We LOVE it when things are simple. We HATE it when things complicate our lives. We like our relationships simple as well. Do you know anyone who says their relationship with someone is “complicated” and they say it with fondness and affection? Probably not. A relationship with a complicated person is one thing, a complicated relationship with someone can be entirely something else. And when it comes to acquaintances in our lives, we CERTAINLY don’t have much tolerance if they make the relationship complicated. Sometimes what they do may make it complicated. Life. Just in One Day.

A baby is born, another person dies. Life is welcomed to the planet and life is suddenly removed from the planet. It happens hundreds of thousands of time a day on this somewhat round marble we call home.

Today I learned a young man took his life. I don’t really know why. I didn’t know him and I don’t really know much about his family. But he was known by a friend of mine and his sudden departure from life has affected people all around her, and if affected me. I know that feeling of wanting to die. Even Alone for the Holidays, You can Bless Another

We as just people are so quick to take for granted occasions that at some will never happen again, and we take for granted those once in a lifetime opportunities we have with family. A friend of mine recently posted a picture of her and her dad (visiting from halfway across the country for the holiday) just having a good time at an event and her comment was “Date with the BEST DADDY EVUH!” She and her dad were both just beaming, father and daughter together enjoying each others presence and the time they get to spend together – just the two of them.

Beware Church, Christians Walk Amongst You!

How silly a statement is that? Warning Christ’s Church that CHRISTIANS walk among them! I mean, after all EVERYONE in Christ’s Church IS a Christian, right? I don’t mean everyone who may show up at Easter or Christmas because they think that will score them points with God and get them to Heaven, but those who are disciples of Jesus and have welcomed Him as their Lord. Well, of course they are Christians. My question to you is do YOU accept all those who claim Christ as their savior as your Christian brothers and sisters?

An Open Letter to my Mom

Hi Mom,

It’s been such a long time I’m not even sure where to start, so forgive me if things seem to bounce around. Let me start with what I KNOW. I KNOW that I love you, and I KNOW that you love me. LIFE has made things very difficult for us to stay connected, I get it – but the love is there and always will be.

When I was born, I’m sure you and dad had hopes and aspirations for me. And I did my best to live up to those. I tried to be a “good kid”. You taught me right from wrong and I always tried to live that way. But I never told you what I was feeling inside, deep inside of me, and I can’t tell you how sorry I am for that. The Evangelical Church is NOT the Devil and God…
