My Letter to the Governor of Texas over the…

(I’ve omitted my personal information, everything else is exactly as I literally MAILED it TODAY to the Governor.)

Dear Governor Abbot,

I live in Lakeway. I’m politically conservative (I voted for you and Ted Cruz), I’ve been a conservative Christian all my life and attend and serve at one of the churches responsible for the Good Friday event at the Erwin Center, and I’m transgender.

I’m NOT an activist. I have a small computer repair business. My clients don’t know I’m transgender. A few pastors at church know I’m transgender (because I didn’t want it to ever be an issue) but no one in the membership knows. My Parents are Alive but, well? …I Don’t Know

I think about my parents every now and then. I wouldn’t say often – maybe a few times a month.

Fortunately I often FORGET that I’m getting pretty close to 60 years old. I certainly don’t feel it and HOPE I don’t look it.

But thank God for public education in the 60’s I CAN DO MATH! My parents are just about 80. All my grandparents passed away in their early 80’s. I sometimes cry (ok – yes like now) when I think about the possibility of either of them passing away and never ever speaking again. Why Are We Christians at WAR with Each Other?

We are all SO MESSED UP!

Let me start by saying I don’t even know how to properly define the groups, but if I call it the “Christian Right” and the “Christian Left” will that suffice? I’m not sure those are very accurate terms at all but I think most of us get the gist of what I’m trying to describe.

Christians, We Need a Lot of Work on Our…

Today’s political environment was the seed for this, but the truth of it extends WAY beyond politics. Frankly I like the BLUNTNESS of the New Living Translation of Proverbs 21:23 “Watch your tongue and keep your mouth shut, and you will stay out of trouble.”

I attribute MUCH of the overt nastiness in our culture today to social media. In a somewhat anonymous way can say whatever we want, and don’t have to see (or seem to care) how it may affect another person nor feel any repercussion from our words. “It’s MY OPINION, like it or not!” We can post it, we can “like” it, we can “share” it, we can tweet it. All from the comfort of our tiny, little innocent phone or our computer and there you go – we’ve had our say and I don’t care how it may affect you. Only Lucifer is Lucifer

Yesterday former speaker of the House John Boehner called Ted Cruz “Lucifer in the flesh”.  Our civilization is becoming less and less civil. From the presidential election to transgender bathrooms to daily comments in the news, our society is getting nastier by the day. It breaks my heart to see how we speak to and treat each other. The REAL Lucifer is delighting in all of it – watching us tear each other apart. How are we as a nation to ever heal after the verbal thrashing we’ve given each other. Laws Won’t Stop Criminals or Predators

I wish the world could take a lesson from two amazing women who are friends of mine on Facebook and in spite of the fact they had different opinions, they actually had a POLITE exchange recently of their thoughts about the Target transgender bathroom firestorm. This whole issue starts from one side throwing a piece of ice to the other (or just pushing the issue if you will). And when one side pushes, the other pushes back – that’s HUMAN NATURE. So the piece of ice becomes a snowball becomes a cannonball and suddenly NO ONE is talking but EVERYONE is shouting at each other.

So let’s slowly walk through it all and let’s start with the women’s restroom. The “alarm” in the public is that a sexual predator could dress up as a woman, go into the women’s restroom and do harm to a young girl or woman. Let’s stop there. Read more “Laws Won’t Stop Criminals or Predators” →

God has a Cruel Sense of Humor

UPDATE:  This was originally posted on my Facebook page.  No more need for a spoiler alert – THIS web site and what may follow is what has been laid on my heart – a ministry to Christians, whether transgender or not ABOUT transgender Christians.

There has been a calling on my heart the last couple of months, God telling me that there is this “thing” he wants me to do. I haven’t been able to talk about it yet ((go to your Old Testament and read about Nehemiah – he couldn’t tell others what it was at first either, even though he KNEW what it was – and NO (spoiler alert!), I’m not building a wall.))

Tonight as I was praying, I was just struck at how unprepared I was for this, how unqualified I am for this. I literally was crying, I asked Him “isn’t there someone else who can take this on? Christians, we’re a FAMILY. All of us. Like it…

Many, many years ago a friend quoted a phrase to me, that “Friends are the family we choose”. I know it may sound a little trite, but for those who don’t really have an immediate family themselves (be it parents, siblings or children), it’s comforting to realize that just because we may not have similar genetic members of the human species in our life, that it doesn’t mean we don’t have family.

CHOOSING your family can be an awesome blessing. For some of us, our friends truly are our family, and it’s wonderful. I’m blessed to have a family here in Austin whom I consider my family.
